Welcome to the 20th student blogging challenge.

As registration forms are created in mid February, they will then be linked here as well as published as a post.

There are three ways you can register:

  • as a commenter – a different group of 5 students allocated to you each week and you visit their blog leaving comments. This is different to what has been done previously, but this way you will only be commenting on posts of those actually doing the activities.
  • as a class – teachers only will register their classroom blog at this link then start visiting other classes on the class participants page
  • as a student – students with their own personal blog will register at this link then start visiting other students on the student participants page

I hope you enjoy this the 20th student blogging challenge.

  1. Hi Miss Wyatt,
The links for registration of classes and student blogs for March 2018 aren’t working. 🙂
Congrats on 10 years of Blogging Challenges!
    Thanks,
    Jan Smith

    1. Hi Jan,
The link for the classes should be working. Student one should work tomorrow from 10am my time. I have the posts scheduled for publishing at that time.

    1. G’day,
I just checked it out and nothing has been added to the blog since it first began so it will be taken off the list at the end of October. The URL certainly doesn’t sound very good but it is actually Psych HoE so maybe a … of Education.

  2. I’m interesting in mentoring, but I’m having trouble finding the link you refer to in this blog post. Is there anything I need to know about the role?

    1. Hi Nina,
Sorry for the late reply. I will be starting to organize the challenge next week and that will include the post for mentors. There will be links to click on in the October 2017 register here page. On that linked page will be an explanation of what is required of a mentor. Thanks for offering and hope to see you soon.

  3. I am very new to blogging and tried to follow the challenge in the Fall as a class. I have since added individual student blogs to class and would like them to do the challenge in March. How would I register them? Is it a class blog or do they all register individually? I have it set up that I must approve all posts from them so I am not sure. What do you suggest?

    1. Hi Garreth,
No they don’t have to be Edublogs, you can use any platform you like but when I give specific instructions, they will be for Edublogs blogs. I do have links to help for Blogger, Kidblog and Weebly as well in the sidebar.

  4. I would love to do this with my students, but we aren’t quite ready yet. I JUST set up the blog and we haven’t posted anything. I haven’t even introduced blogging to them yet! Will there be a similar opportunity later in the year?

    1. Hi Erika,
Welcome to the world of blogging! Yes this challenge runs twice a year in March and October. Perhaps you and your students would like to look after a small group of students to see how they go with blogging?

  5. Hi Miss W
I participated in the Blogging Challenge with my class last year (and loved it – thanks). I am now in a new role in a new school and was hoping to encourage others to participate in the challenge in 2017. I notice there is no September 2016 Challenge. Will there be a challenge in March 2017?
If you are needing help in running the challenge, I am also willing to chip in if that helps keep it going. The challenge was such a great learning experience for my students (and me) so I would like to do what I can to keep it going for others.

    Jane

  6. hey miss w.
my name is Maia bellmaine and I was born in N.S.W Australia.
I love the fact that your making this challenge it is a great opportunity , I am already registered.
I did not know most of the info about commenting and I am glad I do now .
where is your favourite place to travel and have you been to northern N.S.W.

  7. Hi, I’m a teacher, I just discovered this site and am excited to have my students join the challenge this year.

My students have individual blogs, so I’ll have them join as individuals. But I’m happy to give them the weekly challenges and guide them through the process. I’ve been blogging with my students for a few years and would be happy to do whatever mentoring is needed.

So, should I also sign up as a mentor? Or sign-up my class? My class blog mostly functions as one-stop place to link to the individual student blogs.

Thanks for any help – I happy to do this whatever way works best for the organizers.

    1. G’day Becky,
Thanks for having your students join the challenge this year. As there are nearly 2000 students already registered any new students probably wont get a mentor.

I would suggest you register your class blog as you can then make connections with other classes that also have students blogging. Would you like to mentor a group of students that are not from your class? What age group and how many? Teachers generally do between 20 and 30 students, then you can pair them up with your own students as well if you want. If you do want to help with the mentoring, please read this post and add your comment. http://studentchallenge.edublogs.org/2016/02/20/do-you-have-time-to-be-a-mentor/

    1. Hi Abby,
Here is the post where you fill in the form then tomorrow come back to the challenge blog and look up the top where it says Students March 2016. CLick on that and you will find a Google document with all the students on it. You should be near the bottom of your age group by then.

  8. Hi everyone,
I’m excited to join this challenge again and get some more posts up again. Anyway can’t wait to register!
    Kennedi

  9. Hello Mrs. W.
I am excited to get this started on my new campus with the 7th and 8th graders technology club!
    Bonnie

  10. I like the student blogging challenge but your going to fast with the challenges I can’t keep up

    1. G’day Zoey,
You don’t have to do every activity every week. Just try to get one thing done each week. There will be a two week break soon to allow people to catch up.

      1. Hello Miss W, I would like to know when that break will be, when the challange will be over, and will be a blogging challange in April. Thank you
        Scotty

        1. Hi Scotty, there will be a challenge with activities this Sunday and I will mention the dates for the rest of the challenge.

  11. Dear Mrs W.

I thought I was already sighed up to the student bogging challenge but I wasn’t. I have still been doing the all challenges though and I have been commenting to you on the student blogging challenge.

    1. Hi Nelly, Even though you haven’t signed up, you can still add the badge to your blog and just remember to leave your blog URL whenever you a leave a comment on any blog you visit. You are likely to get more visitors to your blog if you do that.

  12. Hello,
I have a question and it is that am I able to do the student blogging challenge if I don’t have a classroom?
    Thank-you,
    Emmabear2035

  13. I have tried to register three times and my name still isn’t showing up. My name is Erica, I am 13, I live in the USA my blog link is http://erica1am.edublogs.org/ I like to be outside and listen to music. My teachers name is Mrs. Hoke. Can you please make sure I get registered? Thank you!! You are amazing!!!

  14. I was wondering if it is too late to join the challenge. I realize we probably won’t be able to get a mentor however, I am mostly after the opportunity for my students to reach out to other students, write for an audience and to give and receive comments. Thanks so much for all your do with this. This is amazing.

    1. Hi Jennifer,
Anyone can join the challenge at any time of the year. As you mentioned, your students wont get a mentor but they can certainly be visiting all the students on the list. Just remind them to add the URL of their blog in the comment somewhere so others can visit them.

  15. Hi there,

My class and I have just found the student challenge, and they’re chomping at the bit to join. Given that it is still week one, can we please, please, please join the challenge.

    Thanks for your consideration.

    1. G’day Ms Hogg,
Feel free to join with both a class blog and individual student blogs. But as you are registering once the challenge has started, your students probably wont get mentors for their personal blogs.

  16. hi I am a year 6 and i am 10 at frankley school NZ is. my hobys are playing soccer , minecraft , strandded deep, and youtube could you please rejastor me

  17. Great Miss. W

I’ll keep a look out for the mentor link.

Organizing the Student Blogging Challenge is such a HUGE undertaking for you. You must take a big deep breath each March and September. It’s like a long distance swim! However it is such a valuable opportunity for the young bloggers and their teachers. I know my class and I learned so much from doing it and our blog and blogging skills improved so much.

I visited the blog you tweeted and am popping back now to check on the one you mentioned where the student owns a dog.

    With every good wish

    Merry Beau

  18. Dear Ms. W,

I would like to mentor this year.
    I see you say above:
‘Please read the post linked here before leaving a comment on that post to register as a mentor’.
I can’t seem to see this post that you mention.
    Sorry to be a nuisance.
    Please advise.
    Thanking you,

    Merry Beau

    1. Thanks Merry Beau,
I plan to write a mentor post this weekend and have it linked then. Been away for a couple of days blogging in North West Tasmania. Have left you a tweet about a blog to visit if you have time.

  19. Hello Miss Wyatt,
My name is Nathanael, I am one of your participants your great challenge.
Well, when registering i spelt Monopoly wrong and I understand that you can take people off the list. I would absolutely love it if you could take me off and let me register again.
    Thank you and goodbye!

    1. G’day Nathanael,
Noticed you had registered twice and I have now deleted the one with the incorrect spelling. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

  20. I am a new blogger and when I found this challenge, I thought it would be interesting to give it a try. I am 15 years old living in Winnipeg. I might join the challenge once I have sufficient posts on my blog so for the meantime, I’d like to check out your blogs (if that is okay of course). Here is my p.blog URL: http://missquirkyblogs.blogspot.ca
I am also in twitter: ris_ayo
I hope to blog along with you guys!!

  21. Looking forward to the challenge again. Hope to see lots of current events tied in to the challenges.

    1. Hi Karen,
Great to have you joining us again. Since the registration forms were put through the Edublogs reader, I have had a lot more college and high school classes register. As they are generally subject specific, I feel global issues and current events will be great for them too. Also being the 13th challenge, I hope to include some posts about lucky/unlucky numbers, superstitions, haunted places etc. If you have any more ideas, feel free to contact me.
